HERE’S WHAT’S ALLOWED
5 THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR BEFORE YOU START YOUR DAY.
WEAR THE BRAND, NOT THE LABEL
Even if you want to show off who makes your new designer suit, you must remove brand labels from the sleeve! Get a seam ripper or small pair of scissors and carefully cut the stitches on either side of the label to remove gently. Don’t rip it off, as this could damage the fabric!
In order to make sure the clothing arrives in perfect condition, many garments like suits, outerwear and other formal attire ship from the vendor with stitches in the pockets and vents. Find a seam ripper or small pair of scissors and carefully snip those stitches on your new garment before making your debut!
THE ONLY TIME IT’S OK TO MISS A BUTTON
When wearing a suit jacket, always keep the bottom button of a 2 or 3 button suit jacket unbuttoned. Same rule applies for blazers and sport coats. Also, fully unbutton your suit before sitting down. This prevents wrinkles and prolongs the life of your buttons and jacket wear.
GET YOUR LEATHER TOGETHER
Match your leather colors when it comes to belts and shoes. Brown shoes, brown belt. Black shoes, black belt. Try our Smooth Leather Reversible Dress Belt for easy pairing with both black and brown leathers.
SUIT HANGERS, YES, THEY’RE A THING
When you hang your new threads in the closet, be sure to keep them on a suit hanger to keep the shoulder intact. If you hang a suit on a regular skinny hanger it could ruin the shape of the jacket.
5 THINGS TO AVOID IF YOU WANT TO LOOK YOUR BEST.
Don't attempt to wear a suit that is dirty or wrinkled. This rule also applies to shoes in the sense of not wearing scuffed, dirty, or unpolished shoes.
DON'T OVER DO IT
We encourage you to be bold with patterns and colors, however, don’t overdo it. Read our article, Mix It Up, for tips on mastering the art of pattern.
SAG HOSTS AN AWARD SHOW
Don’t sag your pants, especially dress pants, that’s never an acceptable look for men’s casual or formal wear.
DON'T SWEAT THE SWEAT
Don’t go without an undershirt if you sweat, but also don’t let your white undershirt show at the neck opening under your dress shirt. Always button that top button or wear a v neck to guarantee it doesn’t show.
Don’t forget to wear dress socks when wearing dress pants or slacks. Match your socks to your suit. If you’re going for a fashionable, contrasting sock, ensure you are styling this look for the appropriate occasion.
